Facial jade guasha has been one of the most popular beauty tools on the market since 2020. The massager helps to promote blood circulation in face muscles, clarify the lymphatics and ease a morning swollen face. The idea to care for the facial muscle and overall circulation is as equally, if not more, important that apply skincare products on the face. In Eastern culture, beauty is created from the inside out and the idea may not be completely foreign to the US consumers.
Tatcha is a cosmetic brand was founded in 2009 by Vicky Tsai. When Vicky immigrated from Taiwan to Texas as a teenage girl, she was fascinated by the luxury Western beauty product. After a trip to Kyoto in 2009, Tsai was drawn to Japanese beauty secrets and rituals. Tatcha incorporate natural ingredients- green tea, rice and algae- in their products to nourish the skin.
Vicky has a degree from Harvard Business School, worked in large beauty corporations and established the successful brand. In 2019, Tatcha was sold for $500 million and Tsai stepped down from the CEO position. This year, she returned to lead the company after the pandemic hit. I am looking forward to a new launch from Tatcha. Scroll down to see some of my favorite products from this brand.

1 Original Facial Cleansing Brush by Kashoen 1883
The timeless facial cleansing brush is made exclusively for Tatcha by one of the oldest brush makers in Japan. The brush set can be used with Tatcha’s signature Rice Enzyme Powders (The Rice Polish) to create a luxurious cleaning ritual. Don’t worry, the ritual is a simple four step ritual.
–> Combine a table spoon of enzyme powder and water into the bowl.
–> Use the brush to work powder into rich foam. Use the brush to apply foam to face.
–> Hold the brush perpendicular to skin and move in gentle, circular motion to clean and exfoliate.
–> Rinse with water to complete the cleaning ritual.
2 The Rice Polish (available Classic, Deep, Gentle and Calming)
A water-activated exfoliant made from nourishing Japanese rice bran and silk protein that transforms to a creamy foam. After this cleansing ritual, the skin will be smooth, polished and glowy. The Rice Polish comes in four variations – Classic, Deep, Gentle and Calming. Pick the one most suitable for your skin type.
3 The Deep Cleanse
While the Rice Polish is a powder type produce, the Deep Cleanse is a gentle gel exfoliating cleanser. Infused with luffa fruit grain, this cleanser will remove dirt and unclog pores from the skin. The deep cleanse is made from Japanese Wild Rose and Japanese Leopard Lily to help tighten pores, minimize excess oil production and maintain a healthy skin balance.
// Editor’s Note// The Deep Cleanse is one of my favorite cleansing product. The formula effectively removes skin build-up without irritating my sensitive skin, even in cold weather. I alternate from Tata Harper’s Regenerating Cleanser, La Prairie’s Foam Cleanser to Tatcha the Deep Cleanse as my daily cleanser.
4 The Dewy Skin Cream
A rich, moisturizing cream that feeds skin with plumping hydration and antioxidant-packed Japanese purple rice for a dewy, healthy glow. Japanese purple rice helps to restore the skin, protect against stress and pollution. Okinawa algae blend and hyaluronic acid to restore hydration for the skin and helps to replenish ceramides for a healthy skin barrier. Botanical extracts and oils from ginseng, wild thyme, and sweet marjoram to retain and release moisture as needed.
5 The Water Cream
The water cream gives a lightweight pore-refining hydration effect. The water cream is infused with Japanese Wild Rose to tighten pores and smooth skin textures. Japanese Leopard Lily to help reduce shine. With Tatcha’s patent formula developed from green tea, rice and algae, the Water Cream will help make youthful and radiant skin.
6 Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++
A weightless sunscreen with broad spectrum SPF 35 that blends effortlessly and invisibly while smoothing the look of pores for matte, silky-smooth skin.
//Editor’s Note// I was living in Santa Barbara at the time. As an asian girl who sadly doesn’t tan well, I need a good sunscreen to keep an even skin tone. Tatcha’s Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen is one of the few sunscreens with PA (UVA protection) indicator available at Sephora in 2017. As Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen comes with mattifying and smoothing benefits, I used this sunscreen as sunscreen and a face primer, which did not lead to any disappointment. The tube shaped container guided me to squeeze just enough product on each use. Don’t forget, we must apply enough sunscreen to reach an active projection.
